Some of My Clients Are Absolutely Smashing It
Some of my clients are absolutely killing it lately with bookings. From the iconic Glastonbury, to DJing alongside artists like Craig David and Sigala, to spontaneous performances with hard house legend Lisa Lashes — it's all a massive testament to their dedication and willingness to put in the work. They’re making it happen, and that’s no accident.
Let me be blunt: just having DJ skills isn’t enough in 2025. If you’re not being active, building your brand, and showing your face online — you’re leaving opportunities on the table. The world is watching you from their phones and laptops, so show them who you are. Don’t be shy.
And yeah — I get how uncomfortable it feels being on camera. That was me once, believe it or not. I worried about messing up, getting judged, thinking I was too old for it. But truth is, those fears hold you back. You don’t need to be perfect — you just need to show up. The more you go live, mix on stream, or chat with your audience, the better your chances of growing your presence.
Acapella Mixing — Cracking the Code
One thing I see time and time again — DJs struggling to mix acapellas. And honestly? I get it. It’s not a one-size-fits-all situation. Some acapellas drop before the downbeat, some on it, and others after. You’ve got to train your ear and build that internal feel — and that takes time.
A lot of clients turn up to sessions with quantized acapellas they’ve downloaded or been given by mates. And let me tell you — those can be a nightmare. They often fight the rhythm or feel unnatural in the mix.
Here’s a recent win: I spent a few sessions with my regular client, Dave, focused solely on acapellas. We worked through loads of different styles — and finally, it clicked. He now instinctively knows when to bring them in early, late, or bang on the one. That’s real progress.
To make this easier for my students, I’ve even got a dedicated folder of curated acapellas set up — so you’re not just fumbling in the dark. It’s all about breaking the skill down and building it step by step.
Sync Button DJs? Not My Style
I heard a story this month about a DJ tutor in Liverpool who only teaches mixing using the sync button. Now, look — every tutor's got their way of doing things, and I’m not here to knock that. But that’s not how I teach.
I want you to be better than average. My job is to push you further than you think you're capable of going. Like with anything in life — the more you practise, the better you get. And I want you to really understand your gear, not just rely on it.
I’ve been working with some of my clients for over a year now, and I can see — and hear — that their goals are getting closer. Yes, technology makes DJing more accessible, but the fundamentals still matter. When something sounds off, I train you to know how to fix it. That’s what separates someone who presses buttons from someone who actually DJs.
Why My Pro-Level Package Works
This is exactly why my Pro-Level Package is so popular — especially with DJs who are genuinely serious about learning the right way.
It’s not just about beatmatching and mixing. I also catch up with you off the decks. We talk about your progress, any mental blocks, confidence issues, or upcoming bookings. It’s a full-circle approach — not just technical, but mindset and strategy too.
Shout Out to the Open Decks Crew
Big shout to everyone who came to my Open Decks event last month. I know some of you travelled a long way to get to Liverpool, and I appreciate that massively.
Events like this give you a chance to play on a set of CDJ-3000s and get that all-important live experience. It’s open to DJs of all ages — but let me be real with you: if you can’t do a basic mix, this isn’t the place to start. It’s not a lesson, it’s a performance opportunity. You’ll get free, constructive feedback from me, and you’ll also meet other DJs and build your network.
The next Open Decks event is coming early July, so keep an eye on my socials — would love to see you there.
Final Thoughts
If you're reading this and thinking “yeah, I want to level up” — then now is the time. Whether you need help tightening your transitions, learning acapella mixing, or just building confidence behind the decks and online — I’ve got your back.
